SA Medical Research Council has awarded Professor Shabir Madhi, the MRC’s most prestigious accolade, the MRC Lifetime Achievement Award (Platinum Medal).
The award is made in recognition of the excellence of his research in the field of vaccinology and respiratory and meningeal pathogens and its impact on improving child health in South Africa and other developing countries. Prof Madhi is commended for the international recognition he has received for his research on the effect of childhood HIV on the epidemiology of pneumonia and the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of vaccines for this vulnerable population.
