NHLS announces appointment of CEO
“This appointment is extra special for the organisation as Ms Mogale is the first black woman to be appointed in this role since the organisation’s inception in 2001.”
The National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) is proud to announce that its current Interim CEO Ms Joyce Mogale has been appointed as its new CEO, with effect from 1 September 2015. Ms Mogale takes over the reins from Mr Sagie Pillay, who was at the helm of the organisation from 2009-2014. Ms Mogale was appointed by the Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi from November 2014 as the Interim CEO.
Ms Mogale holds a Master’s in Business Management (MBA), Postgraduate Diploma in Health Management, BSc (Hons) status in Medical Sciences, Higher National and a National Diplomas in Medical Laboratory Technology. She is a former Regional Executive Manager of the NHLS. Previously, she worked as a Deputy Director; Laboratory Services in the Department of Health and Welfare in Limpopo-the then Northern Province. She has held strategic positions as Director in SMMEs. She is also contracted as a Non Executive Director of the following boards: Limpopo Gambling board (Deputy Chairman), Cygnimart, Metso Minerals and Mining, Westvaal (Chairman) and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions. Ms Mogale is also a Trustee in the Tirisano, Ububele, Westvaal and Umvuso boards.
Ms Mogale said that she is extremely proud and honoured that the leadership of the NHLS has shown confidence in her and that she looks forward to leading the service with a team of excellent staff who are all renowned experts in their respective fields.
To the appointment, Prof Barry Schoub – the Chairperson of the NHLS Board said, “I trust that all members of our NHLS family will join me and the Board in offering our fullest support to Ms Mogale in her new role, in order to ensure that our organisation continues to provide quality, affordable and sustainable health laboratory services and related public health services to all citizens in our country”.
