Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in submitting an article to the Public Health Bulletin.

Authors are encouraged to carefully read the following instructions prior to submitting an article. Failure to follow the instructions will result in the article being returned to the author for redrafting and resubmission.

Criteria

Relevance

PHB publishes information useful to readers in the public health community, private clinicians, researchers, teachers and students, and the news media. Articles and reports are based on science (especially epidemiology) or public health policy or practice. Articles should be supported by current data from surveys, surveillance systems, or studies. Articles referencing investigations in progress or recently completed will have the highest priority for publication.

Authenticity

Articles should not contain previously published information or guidelines/recommendations and should, for ethical reasons, be free from plagiarism.

Quality

Articles should be based on analyses using accepted scientific methods and should include sufficient data to adequately address the public health topic.

Clarity

Articles should adhere to principles of plain language (www.plainlanguage.gov/external icon), including conciseness, logical arrangement with the reader in mind, appropriate language, and minimal use of acronyms.

Review Process

All reports must be initially accepted for publication by the Managing Editor, following which they will be sent to a subject expert for critical review. Authors will be invited to address reviewer comments within a stipulated period. Acceptance for publication will be based on reviewer and editorial recommendations following the completion of the review process. Final approval for publication will be obtained from the Editor-in-Chief and the Chief Executive.
